We previously hosted a group of pupils from SS Nursery & Primary School for a short tour of what happens in an IT company.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators

At Neptune Financial Software (NFS), we recently had the pleasure of hosting pupils from Teach Nations International School and Friends at our Ntinda offices. Their visit was part of our ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility efforts to give back to the community we serve and to inspire the next generation of technology leaders. The pupils, aged between 4 and 12, joined us for a short tour to learn what happens inside a tech company and how different teams contribute to digital innovation.

The session began with our Head of Infrastructure, Bogere Robert, and our Brand and Product Designer, Charles Bbosa Kiyegga introducing the children to the world of IT. But just a few minutes into the workshop, something remarkable happened. The pupils took the lead. Instead of simply listening, they confidently began explaining what IT meant to them, in their own language and understanding.

The Bombshell

To our surprise, these young learners demonstrated an impressive level of knowledge. They spoke about artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, firewalls, and even the internal components of a computer. They described the inner workings of mobile phones, the software powering different models, and the variations between computers in the market. Their awareness and curiosity amazed both their teachers and our team.

This experience highlighted a powerful truth. Today’s generation of learners is growing up in a world surrounded by technology. Their exposure, confidence, and enthusiasm make them prime candidates to become future innovators. With the right support, training, and encouragement, they can step into tech leadership roles sooner and more effectively than previous generations.

The Reality At Home

However, the pupils also expressed some challenges at home. Many face pressure from parents who are more familiar with traditional career paths such as engineering, nursing, and teaching. To many parents, these established professions feel safer and more predictable compared to emerging careers in technology.

This opened our eyes to an important need in our society. As technology continues to reshape industries, new jobs are emerging faster than ever. We must raise awareness in our communities about these opportunities and show parents the value of supporting their children’s interest in digital careers. Embracing these new paths will help our young population participate in technological development, create new job opportunities, and accelerate the digitization of various sectors of Uganda’s economy.

In Conclusion

Neptune Financial Software remains committed to empowering communities and contributing to this conversation. Through CSR activities like this school visit, we aim to spark curiosity, nurture talent, and encourage a future where more young Ugandans take their rightful place in the technology ecosystem.
